April 7-14, 2017
Cost: $200 ($250 for non-church members)
Deposit: $25 due to LSU BCM
Who can participate: college students
What to expect: Jefferson College will serve together at Camp Getsemani, an orphanage in Morales, Mexico. They will host soccer, cheerleading, and volleyball camps. Light construction work such as painting will also be done. Students could also choose to serve at a medical clinic if God so leads.
Why Mexico? The LSU BCM has served in Mexico for over 20 years and has recently re-launched this ministry after several years away. Their relationship with the local church has proven beneficial in meeting the needs of the local community in a sustainable way. The orphans we will be serving come from backgrounds of severe poverty, with many of their parents being involved in the drug trade. Much help is needed to share the gospel with the orphans and with local community.
July 7-16, 2017
Cost: $1,500 for church members ($2000 for non-church members)
Deposit: $300 (non-refundable) due by Sunday, March 12, 2017
Who can participate: Incoming high school juniors through adults
What to expect: This is our second year partnering with All Nations Algarve a mission church located in Carvoiero, Portugal. Our high school juniors and seniors as well as our adults will partner with All Nations and the local Awana clubs to conduct a“Beach Week” outreach event. We will also host a Louisiana themed cultural party in order to assist the church in their outreach efforts.
Discipleship of church members and assisting them with developing outreach strategies will also be a priority.
Our college students will participate in Beach Week and have the opportunity to sere in Ferias Desportivas, a sports camp run by the local government. They will assist in activities such as soccer, gymnastics, surfing, and sailing. Serving at the school allows us to build relationships with the Portuguese “monitors” (camp counselors), which opens doors to share the gospel.
We will invite those we meet during our daytime events to join us in the evenings for cultural parties, boat rides, flag football tournaments and block parties. These events will give us a chance to share our faith with the Portuguese.
Why Portugal? This is the 6th year that Jefferson Baptist will return to Portugal. Our team will have the opportunity to build on existing relationships we have developed throughs service in the local school system and with the local American football league. We will also develop new relationships aimed at sharing the gospel with the Portuguese.
The culture in this area is very post-modern, with less than 2% of people in the entire country professing to be Evangelical Christians. This means that there are 10.5 million Portuguese who do not know Christ! Portugal is a first-world country whose residents have everything that they want, but they are missing the one thing they need: a Savior! Over the past year, All Nations Algarve has baptized 6 youth As a member of this team, you will be a catalyst to share the Gospel throughout Portugal. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few!
July 29 - August 5, 2017
Cost: $500 ($650 for non-church members)
Deposit: $100 (non-refundable) due by Sunday, March 12
Who can participate: families with kids; high school students to adults
What to expect: Tennessee experienced severe and wide-spread wild fires this fall. These fires destroyed several churches and numerous homes. We will be assisting with rebuilding efforts in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge communities. We will also be helping churches in the area to do outreach to families effected by the fires.
As Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are very popular vacation spots, they draw many people from the international community to work in the tourist industry. We are hoping to partner with a local missionary who works with the international community in this area.
We may also have an opportunity to work with a local organization to minister to children living in a group home.
Why Tennessee? Our August flooding taught us how devastating natural disasters can be. Along with this, we learned a ton of new skills! It’s time to use these skills once again to further the Kingdom and ease the burden of another community effected by a natural disaster. Working with the international community and children’s home will give us additional opportunities to share the gospel and make disciples!
December 29, 2017 - January 7, 2018
Cost: approximately $1,800 for church members ($2,800 for non-church members)
Deposit: $300 (non-refundable) due by Sunday, March 12.
Who can participate: high school students through adults
What to expect: The Maui County Baptist Association has requested our help! Their pastors have reached out to us and asked us to come and assist them in discipling their members, evangelizing their communities, and completing construction projects at their churches.
Why Hawaii? While Hawaii is one of the most physically beautiful places on the planet, the spiritual darkness experienced by the majority of its residents leaves the spiritual landscape bleak. One pastor stated, "[w]e reside among a vast group of people whose families are marked by violence and abuse, drugs and alcoholism, homelessness, mysticism and cultism. Most families that are not dealing with these issues are still struggling to make it from day to day in a very expensive place to live." The pastors in Hawaii are begging for help with spreading the gospel in this spiritually dark place. Come be a part of sharing the love of Christ with the Hawaiians!
Serve with Jefferson
On five different Sundays throughout 2017, members of Jefferson Baptist Church will have the opportunity to serve in one of several different areas within our community in an effort to share the love of Christ with Baton Rouge. Ministry opportunities include serving with Youth Oasis, singing hymns and visiting with residents at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, gathering at Delta Clinic to pray for an end to abortion, homeless ministry, and more.
This spring, Serve Sundays will be held on March 12 and April 23. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall prior to departing for ministry sites. Children are encouraged to participate alongside their parents in Serve Sunday ministry opportunities.
Each Monday and Wednesday night, members of our church serve to teach new local residents to speak English. Nearly 100 people are currently enrolled in our English as a Second Language program. Each time the classes meet, the gospel is presented to the students. Several have come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior, and God has used this program to give rise to Jefferson en Espanol, a Spanish language service held every Sunday at Jefferson.
Many volunteers are needed for this ministry. The ability to speak another language is NOT required. Training is provided. God uses this ministry to bring the nations to Jefferson, and we do not want to squander this opportunity! Contact Julie Sandifer or Stephanie Hulett to begin serving this week!
Jefferson en Espanol
Jefferson en Espanol is a Spanish language mission church that meets on our campus every Sunday from 11:30-1:30. The church is led by Pastor Miguel Flores. Volunteers are needed to assist this mission church as it grows, especially in the nursery!
For more information about these ministry opportunities, please contact Stephanie Hulett at (225) 315-7544 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
