Who We Are
The church is not a building. It is a body of baptized believers who have agreed to work together to carry out Christ’s ministry in the world. A well–balanced Christian is one who is in fellowship with a local body of Christ.

At Jefferson Baptist Church, the Sunday School ministry is our core, foundational ministry for teaching God’s Word, evangelizing the lost, fellowshipping, and growing the body of Christ. Carrying on a Southern Baptist tradition of caring about people and studying God’s Word, JBC offers weekly classes in a warm and inviting environment designed for everyone. It is here members engage in the learning process that lays the important foundation for growing their relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and growing their love for one another. To focus on the unique needs of different groups, our Sunday School classes are organized into three major divisions: Adults, Youth, and Children. Each division is designed to meet the needs of each specific group with classes held every Sunday morning beginning at 9:15 a.m.
Preschool and Children’s Ministry:
The JBC children’s ministry seeks to introduce children to the saving love of Christ through every class, event, and activity. We encourage children to begin their study of the Bible as the source of all truth and the means by which they achieve spiritual maturity. We pray that our ministry provides a solid foundation for children as they embark on their life-long journey of faith.
A verse that inspires our ministry and its volunteers to work for the Lord and serve in His church is Luke 2:52, “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men.” It is the desire of all of the men and women who serve in our Preschool and Children’s Ministry to help children grow intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially. We believe that the church is here to serve and support families as they take on the incredible task of raising boys and girls. Thank you for entrusting your children to our care!
Preschool Church (PreK and Kindergarten) provides preschoolers with age-appropriate worship opportunities designed to engage and introduce them to biblical truths. Through crafts, music, storytelling, and play we are able to provide a quality experience for our preschool-aged children.
Kids’ Church (1st- 4th grade) provides children with age-appropriate worship with the goal of preparing them to attend the regular worship service. Kids’ Church includes worship, Bible teaching, and games and activities.
Sunday School (Birth-5th Grade) is age-graded, classroom-style learning opportunities where children are exposed to the Bible and taught how to apply it to their lives. Even our youngest children are provided a learning opportunity unique to their needs and abilities.
Our Wednesday Night program, Music and Missions, is available for children to go deeper with their faith by learning how to use their knowledge and abilities for the Lord. Music classes allow children to learn the value of worshipping the Lord. In addition to our Wednesday night class, many of our choirs perform throughout the year at various church events. Missions teaches children about missionaries serving around the world. Boys and girls are able to experience hands-on cultural lesson with many of our older groups participating in various service projects.
Throughout the year we seek to offer family-friendly events for children of all ages to participate in. A few of our yearly events include Fall Fest, Eggstravaganza, and Vacation Bible School. Fall Fest is a free community-wide event for families that includes food, carnival games, prizes, candy, and live music. Fal Fest takes place on October 31st from 5-8 PM. Eggstravaganza is a church-grounds egg hunt for all children. Games and activities as well as a child-friendly Easter story presentation are included. Eggstravaganza takes place the Saturday before Easter at 10 AM. Vacation Bible School is a special week- long event for our Kindergarten through 5th graders. From 9 AM-Noon we engage children with music, sports, Bible stories, crafts and more! In addition, on Thursday night of VBS we have a special Family Night where hundreds of children and their families come to hear and see all the children have accomplished and learned.
Throughout the year we offer special, one-time events for children and their families. Please continue to check our website for more information or email firstname.lastname@example.org to ask questions or get details!
Our purpose is to help our youth see God, the world, and themselves through eyes of faith. We encourage them spiritually and relationally in an environment of their peers and godly mentors.
Each Wednesday evening at 6:15 p.m. we meet for a time of fellowship, worship, and Bible study in the youth room above the gym. During the year we participate in mission trips, youth camps, and Bible studies, including Disciple Now, Choir tour, PHAT camp, and World Changers. We also schedule fellowship activities like CRAM Session, paintball, and 5th Quarters during football season. Through these events, we strive to help our youth develop a strong, lasting relationship with their Lord and Savior. For more information about the Youth Ministry please visit: jbcstudents.com
Our purpose is to encourage college students to develop a more intimate relationship with Christ while providing a fun outlet for their varying needs and interests. Our small group Bible study meets in a casual environment to discuss and study difficult issues of the Bible. Many of our students put their faith into action by serving in the Children’s, Youth, and Music ministries of the church. By meeting and serving God together, we build strong relationships with each other that will last beyond our college years.
Our purpose is to equip our women toward maturity in Christ, fellowship with one another, service through our church, sharing Jesus with family, friends, and others, and involvement in missions locally and around the world. The women’s ministry fits squarely into the overarching goals of our church, supporting the purpose of the church as a whole.
We are very active throughout the year. Our year begins with our annual tea where we sip tea from fancy china and eat crumpets. In the summer we hold our annual women’s retreat where we bring in guest speakers and rejuvenate our souls by studying God’s Living Word. We also participate and sponsor mission work throughout the year. For more information about the Women's Minsitry please visit: jeffersonbaptistwomen.com
At Jefferson, our heart is that men are biblically trained and equipped to be spiritual leaders in their homes, in the church, and in their jobs. We accomplish this through Bible study, fellowship and mission trips. In today’s culture it’s increasingly important for men to honor God with their hearts and lives.
50 Plus Ministry:
Young at Heart is an organization designed to minister to and meet the needs of our senior adult community, age 50 and older. Regular meetings are held every fourth Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. in the gym. Each meeting offers a time of Christian fellowship, a covered dish luncheon where each person brings their favorite dish to share, a blood pressure check, and an entertaining guest speaker. Throughout the year, Young at Heart sponsors retreats, day and overnight trips, movie events, game days, and flu shots. We want everyone to feel young at heart.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. - Colossians 3:16
We strive to lift up and exalt the name of the Lord every time we gather for worship. It’s a song of joy, a song of hope, and a song of salvation to all those who will receive Jesus as Lord.
Our Chancel Choir is made up of adults who have a passion for worshiping God through their gift of song. We sing every Sunday morning at the morning worship service and rehearse every Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. New members are welcomed at any time of the year.
Our Sunday morning corporate worship is accompanied by a wonderful orchestra. If you play an instrument and are interested in becoming part of the orchestra, we would love to have you audition as we are always looking for new members.
MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers):
We know how tough it is to be a mom of small children, so our monthly meetings are designed to give you a break from your daily routine as well as a boost of encouragement to keep you going strong. Meetings include a devotion, roundtable parenting discussion, craft project, and lots of laughter. You’ll find a caring and accepting atmosphere and plenty of opportunities to share your joys and challenges with other moms who are going through the same experiences you are.
MOPS meets the second Thursday of every month at 6:15 p.m. in the Activities Building. Dinner is served at each meeting, and childcare is provided if needed. Non-mobile infants are welcome in the meetings.
Preschool at Jefferson Baptist Church is a Foundation!
Our Preschool program began in 1967 to fill a need for the community and to be an outreach ministry of our church. Our preschool has a dedicated Christian staff that makes home visits and shares God’s love through various classroom activities. What a joy to plant seeds in God’s little ones!
Classes are offered four and five days a week for three-, four-, and five-year-old children from 9:00 a.m.-noon. Click here for more information.
Mother’s Day Out:
Our Mother’s Day Out is considered one of the top programs in the Baton Rouge area. At Jefferson’s Mother’s Day Out, we want your child to experience God’s love through loving relationships and happy times at church. Because each child is growing physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually, we provide a variety of positive learning activities. The activities look a lot like play – that’s the way young children learn – but the activities also teach skills and introduce children to the joy of learning.
We believe that God’s guidance is crucial to personal growth and that scripture is relevant for any stage of life. Jefferson Baptist Church provides family counseling through referrals to Christian counselors in the Baton Rouge area.
On September 15, 1974, our live television ministry was established broadcasting our Sunday morning worship service. Our service is broadcast every Sunday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on cable channel 19. Our service can also be viewed through delayed broadcasting Sundays at 10 p.m. and Thursdays at 11:00 p.m. on cable channel 19.
On August 10, 2007, our radio station ministry, WBRJ-LP 97.3 FM, was established and began broadcasting through the airwaves 24/7 providing the Baton Rouge area with a strong Southern Baptist voice. WBRJ is a station that the whole family can enjoy.
